September 2008 Update Guitar Competition “Guitar Superstar 2008” by Guitar Player magazine. Few months ago I saw a publication in Guitar Player magazine about this national guitar competition they are organizing under the name “Guitar Player Guitar Superstar”. This is not only a guitar competition, but a composition/song writing showcase as well. Thousands of applicants submitted their original tunes. I decided to give it a shot and I’ve submitted one of the songs form “The Other Side” album.
It was a great honor to be in the top 10 players in the country, and to play in front of the judges: Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, George Lynch, Elliot Easton and Brendon Small. The host for this event was legendary guitarist Andy Summers of “The Police”. Guitar Player magazine team was extremely welcoming and have treated us like a rock stars, and the backing band “The Thud Factor” was one of the best bands I ever played with in my life. Michael Molenda, Christen McFarland, Jude Gold, Jonathan Herrera among others, were very friendly and supportive. This event took place in San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall in front of the thousands of guitar fans. The show was sold out. San Francisco had a very cold weather, but all the contestants were fired-up and ready to rock. I took a second place as the only electric guitar player that got through the top three positions. I was very honored to be able to perform with the top players in USA. All the contestants where authentic, very musical and unique. I hope that we’ll cross our paths again in the future. If it was up to me, it would be very hard to pick the winner, because everybody had his/her unique style and approach. In my eyes, everybody is a winner. I think all 10 of us did the great job there.
