01. Ascension

Song Descriptions:

This is a short intro symbolizing the soul’s transition from “our world” to the after life. This song was written many years ago, when my grandmother passed away. I used this experience as the inspiration and foundation for the whole CD concept.

The image conveyed here is a hospital bed - with the medical staff running around the patient, trying to bring her back to life. I have read many books about near death experiences, and many people claim that there is a silent period when soul leaves the body. In many cases people see their own body on the bed. Right after that experience, people get pulled to a bright light and find themselves at the end of the “tunnel”.

The final notes in this song represent the soul disappearing into that light.

02. The Other Side (Ab Aeterno)

This tune is narrowly connected with the first one, and can be considered Part 2 of “Ascension”. I picture myself in front of a dark, ominous gateway. The gate opens and I’m running to “The Other Side”.

Eventually I stop running and find myself in front of a massive desk. There’s a person behind that desk. It’s someone I know; a friend, a relative, a brother…….. and at that moment all my emotions erupt. Lost in this tempest, we embrace each other. We finally sit and start to converse. I begin first, divulging the details of my past life. My stories, my life- the highs and lows, flow from me until I am empty, unsure of myself.

This person then begins his/her story. Much to my surprise, he/she gives me words of comfort and support. This person says that death is only a transition and another deviation of subsistence in the Universe.

This tune concludes with a repetition of the first part. My counterpart and I walk towards the bright light and continue to do so “Ab Aeterno”- until the end of time.

03. Red Line Express

Present time; life is like the train. We travel from one place to another, physically and as metaphor. If you approach the listening like the train approaches the station, it symbolizes life in a big city namely Chicago. You come and go, trying as best you can to keep up with life. You are aboard on the Red Line Express aptly named as the train must make up time due to delays.

04. Princess

I composed this story in 1999 and performed it in Paris for the Berklee College of Music Live Scholarship Tour. The result- I was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee.

The other side of this story is a simple thought about the people we love and care about in out life. Think about it: who is your “Princess”? Perhaps a wife, mother, sister, daughter…

This “Princess” is the reason why we live our lives, and just the thought of this person gives us the inspiration we need to live.

05. The Temple

I wrote this in Boston while studying at Berklee. It represents the temple as a structure, and on the other hand, our life on this world and beyond. This temple is the foundation of peace, compassion, sacrifice and all things good. The middle section of this song symbolizes the temple “On The Other Side”, on the other plane of existence – a gigantic structure where everything is supreme and pure, and with children playing in the background.

The last measures of this composition signify the apex or culmination of life eternal.

06. Biistreak

This is the place we all go to regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity- to have our thoughts, wishes, and prayers heard- and answered.

07. Emina

This is an old traditional Eastern European/Bosnian tune, but in a new instrumental form. This composition is inspired by Bosnian poet Aleksa Santic and his poem Emina, where he yearns for this woman’s love. Music is folk-traditional.

This is a very sad story- a passionate and heartbreaking song. I didn’t use the words written by Santic (it’s an instrumental song), but I have tried inspire the same mood by rearranging the music with Symphonic Orchestra, rock band setup and acoustic & electric guitar.

Some traditional Eastern European instruments are featured here, such as: Saz, Accordion, Brach …

08. Flash Art

The name of the tune was taken from a well-known café in my hometown. It is an internet collaboration project featuring some great musicians from England, Brazil and Bosnia. This song symbolizes my life flashing back to prior my Berklee days.

09. Parody of Sound

Somebody said that pop music and solo guitar are not a good blend. Judge for yourself!

Originally, this song was supposed to swap places with track 10, but at the last moment I changed my mind. The mood of this song elicits emotions about someone who has passed on, and then gathering strength to face reality and accept the consequences.

10. Boston in the Rain

A simple closing tune, recorded with two 7-String guitars. It was written on a rainy day in Boston after I received heartbreaking news about my brother, who suddenly and unexpectedly passed away.

I hope you enjoyed my music. Feel free to email me with your comments, impressions or critiques. I would be more than happy to read them.
Thank you for your support.
